CANWEST 2022

  Sept 25-Oct 2      We are really happy we decided to travel home through the US. We have been blessed with perfect autumn weather - sunny bright days and cool nights.   We’ve watched the trees changing colour as we travel through Minnesota, Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. We have not been this way before. The roads are great, they’re not busy and the towns are interesting to drive through.   Our first stop was in Baudette Michigan. So Baudette claims to be the walleye capital of the world and to prove that they have the biggest fish I’ve ever seen in the centre of town. Wally Walleye is their mascot.  In Canada, a walleye is a pickerel.        We stayed at the Timber Mill Campground run by the municipality. It’s just a small place but it was quite nice and quiet.     50 + 1 Richmond Hill High School Reunion!   Winnipeg, Guelph, Winnipeg   We travelled from Brandon to Winnipeg and returned to the Arrowhead RV Park in Ile-des-Chenes.  A community about 20 minutes from the city outskirts.  This is the third time we have stayed here.  It’s a fine campground in a quiet community, nothing special but the owners are very nice.   We were getting ready to go home for the weekend.  Yup, back to Ontario and Guelph for a 4 day weekend.  My high school 50+1 in-person reunion was happening on Sep 17.   The day we dropped off our laundry, we tried to find a coffee roaster for Jerry’s collection.  A few were listed on Google as roasters.  Turned out the place we choose was not and the coffee was terrible but it was across the road from a Philippino Festival.  We spend some time there.   Sept 6-11   “The trike family” So before leaving Edmonton, we stopped at a Recumbent bike shop in Leduc, south of Edmonton.     This shop specializes in recumbent trikes and Jerry bought what is necessary to convert Elizabeth’s old trike to an e-assist for Jerry.  So…when Jerry figures out what to do and actually does it, we will have two e-assist trikes for two 70 year-olds! Harvest, Crooked Trees, Bells and Biking     It’s been so long since we’ve written our blog that I can’t remember where we left off!   We have had some beautiful fall weather and driving through the prairies during harvest time is quite fascinating.  We’ve passed several huge combine harvesters. These vehicles are so large they take up 3/4 of the road in width and I don’t even know   how long they are.
